Happy Tuesday!! I hope you had a great long weekend. I am about to take a little vacay to Colorado and I am really looking forward to the change of scenery!! I was in Estes Park last summer and it was so beautiful. Our family had a blast exploring the mountains. Bill and I are going to Breckenridge next week and I am hoping to see some snow and relax and read a few books. I always take way too much reading material. I have not been to the mountains in the winter in a really long time so I need to get to planning my really warm wardrobe. I have to borrow the snow boots from Victoria that I bought for her when she lived in New York. So on to the subject of why I love wearing black. I think it started when I was a baby model at Kim Dawson Agency and began modeling at Neiman Marcus. That was back in the day when Neiman Marcus was the fashion trendsetter and Stanley Marcus was at the helm. As a model we were required to dress well, always look pulled together and bring a modeling bag that looked nice. A ride on the elevator with then fashion director Daria Retian downtown NM was enough to make a young model tremble. Oh the brutal scrutiny!!! So black was safe and always looked sharp and was almost a required dress code at NM. You have one more week to enter the Amazing Gift Card Giveaway. See the entry below.
I think wearing black is flattering and safe and makes a great backdrop for accessories and prints like leopard. A leather moto jacket is a basic you may want to add to your wardrobe. The one I am wearing is not expensive and there are lots of options and price points out there. I have added a silk camisole which is another great basic piece to add to your closet and is an easy layering staple. If you then add black jeans you are set to go out looking confident and in charge. I chose these crop flares with a fringe detail at the hem. By the way, crop flares seem to be here to stay and fringe is everywhere for spring. Dressing well is all in the details. Keeping it simple is never a bad idea. I love the crop flares but have really liked wearing this bootie with a skinny jean. You could also wear a flare and just the leopard toe would show.
I think that leopard print has almost become a neutral. It goes with almost everything and certainly is a great companion to black. Leopard seems to be everywhere from shoes to boots to belts to handbags. I have a leopard jacket and 3/4 length coat and both are really fun to wear. It kind of makes dressing easy and I tend to be a bit lazy sometimes. The leopard booties that I am wearing are from Dolce Vita and I have enjoyed wearing them but I have to admit I got them on sale at Tootsie’s and really wanted this pair from Sam Edelman. I am a huge fan of the kitten heel. It may be kind of late in the season to be showing leopard booties but they will probably be on sale and you will have them in your closet for next fall and winter. That’s not to say you can’t wear them with a white jean this spring.
I so appreciate your reading my blog today and love to hear from you. I am trying to post on a more regular schedule so let me know what you think. I am happy to include any topics that might be of interest to you so make a comment and I will have some new ideas!! I hope you are enjoying February and looking forward to spring as much as I am . I get to see Hunter in March and I just can’t wait. My daughter Roxanne is having a baby girl in May so we will have lots of joy in our family.
