Visiting Elizabeth Gillett in NYC
I escaped to New York City and Westport, CT for the Labor Day holiday and had the privilege of meeting Elizabeth Gillett in person. We have become friends over email and I wrote a blog post on her beautiful scarves, tunics and kimonos this spring. It was so much fun to visit her showroom on W 36th street and see all of her fabulous creations. My friend Roxie was with me and we had a blast trying on our favorite pieces. I have a selection to show you and am so impressed with her artistic talent and process for making the different styles. Elizabeth draws and watercolors the original artwork for the scarves which are then made one by one in India using a variety of techniques. There is truly something for everyone and I totally agree with Elizabeth who “believes a scarf is the ultimate accessary, an outfit changer that brightens the face like a great shade of lipstick, makes traveling fun and chic, screens us from heavy air conditioning or cold weather and helps us edit what’s shown and what’s covered in an easy, one size, timelessly style-able item.”
This scarf (Tavia) is great for date night with my leather jacket and leather crop flare pant. I love the fall colors and cashmere feel. Elizabeth’s patterns are unique and intricate and limited editions. Here is a similar look.
I can tell you that this scarf (Abigail) is great for travel because I used it on my freezing Virgin flight back to Dallas. Taking a scarf on a trip can give you many more outfits with fewer pieces. Love the mix of patterns.
Roxie and I both got this kimono (Livia) and I have already worn it so many times. I am guilty if you are not supposed to post the same outfit more than once on Instagram!! This week I was supposed to attend an event after working all day. My hair and make up were a mess and I was exhausted. When I looked in my closet I was happy to see this piece and I threw it over black jeans and a sleeveless turtleneck with chunky heel suede boots. Done! It is also available in grey.
My mom is obsessed with butterflies and I may have to share this beautiful wrap (Aria) with her. I love color for fall to brighten up the dreary days. And anything that mixes back with black will work for me. This is perfect for a girls lunch, church or an evening at the musicals. You can appreciate Elizabeth’s talent with watercolor!!
ELIZABETH IS OFFERING FREE SHIPPING THROUGH 10/15/16. Code is “FREESHIP”
