I made a promise to myself recently that I would start trying to apply my self tanner once a week instead of waiting until I desperately needed it and then didn’t have time; like when I want to wear a dress. I did not get to go to the beach this year like last summer so I never got a start on a tan. And if you read my blogs on my treatments at Bella MD (before and after) you will remember that I am really trying to protect my skin and stay out of the sun. Consequently I do need to keep up with my self tanning routine. I actually have never had a spray tan and have a pretty simple and affordable solution. I really like the L’Oreal Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Towelettes for Body. I buy the Medium Natural Tan. These can be purchased at CVS and I use one towel per application. I have tried more expensive brands but this one works best for me. It doesn’t streak or smell and the only problems come with operator error like if I am in a hurry or skip a few areas. I have always read that exfoliating to prepare your skin for self tanner really helps. I always kind of thought that shaving did the trick. But this Monday I decided to grab one of my favorite scrubs and get everything in good shape. WOW!! I have to say it made the biggest difference. I couldn’t believe it. My self tanner has never looked better and I am convinced that this is a must before application. I used Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Soy Milk & Honey Body Polish.
I will share my usual routine that may help if your skin is dry like mine which can keep your self tanner from going on smoothly. For years I have used Dove Soap, CVS Shower and Bath Body Oil that is a copy of Alpha Keri Bath Oil, and the CVS Daily Moisture Lotion that is a copy of Lubriderm Lotion. I bathe with Dove soap in the shower, apply bath oil before drying off, then towel dry and apply lotion every day. If I want to apply self tanner my new routine is to use my scrub, shower with dove soap, use bath oil when shaving, apply the same bath oil all over after shower, towel dry. Then apply lotion sparingly ONLY to my knees, elbows, ankles, feet and collar bone before using the tanning towels. This prevents the tanner from grabbing and looking darker on the boney parts. I do not apply lotion until later in the day and I try to wear loose clothing so that the tanner gets a good start.
I hope this helps to achieve a little natural looking healthy glow all year long!! Thanks for reading!! XO Debby
