The Wide Leg Pant / Olive

Well, I have to admit that after years of modeling,  getting a discount in stores and shopping at the now deceased Apparel Mart, I have a really hard time paying retail!! I like to buy quality at a great price if at all possible. But I also admit to having expensive taste. Champagne taste on a beer budget as they say. I have to tell you that these days it is easy to find a sale or an outlet with great buys if you have a discerning eye. I am picky about fabric and fit and I do think things at some of the so called fashion outlets are cheaply made. I frequently like popping in to the NM Last Call in my neighborhood (I think they call it a Studio) and can quickly look around for anything worth the price. It’s not the greatest way to shop if you need something in particular unless it’s jeans or work out or a particular brand like Vince. They used to have a great shoe selection but now I think the primo items go to Grapevine Mills or online. I am not the best online shopper as I may have mentioned before. I hate to return things!!! I like to try things on in person for fit and to feel the fabric. Also I have a narrow foot and shoe sizes are tricky, especially the cheaper brands.

I absolutely love and I mean LOVE wide leg pants. This style has always been a favorite of mine and I don’t exactly know why. Maybe I am channeling my inner Katherine Hepburn!! She wore the wide leg trouser like no one else!!! There is just something easy and sophisticated about the flow of a wide leg pant. Best if you can wear a higher heel and this really makes your legs look longer. You can sweep into a room with ease and confidence. A flat, sneaker or cute low wedge will work as well if you want to be more comfy but remember, proportion is key!! I spotted this particular pair of olive twill pants by Max Studio at NM Last Call and just had to try them on. I was actually looking for off the shoulder tops but got side tracked by these beauties. They have a higher waist and a tie belt and are just easy to wear. They do wrinkle, I will warn you, but I think it is kind of like wearing linen or silk, just goes with the territory.

Now let’s talk about my obsession with olive. I think this is the best year round fashion color on the planet. Military influence continues to seem to surface on the runways every season and this is The Color that best represents that trend. You may remember a previous blog post on this fab olive drape front jacket I found at Zara. And then there was the Tory Burch embellished top I love for all seasons. Can’t wait to wear it with white. Did you see my on newsletter on Splurge or Steal?? Love this Zara embroidered military jacket!! I found a really cute dress while searching online for the link to my pants. I might need that too!! Blog writing is a seriously bad occupation for a shopping addiction!! The thing about olive is that it is a great neutral and can be worn winter or summer. It looks fab with brights and blacks or browns. If you can’t wear it near your face you can wear it in a pant!! This wide leg trouser is both comfortable and also looks pulled together. A perfect combo and an alternative to jeans.

I couldn’t resist including a few shots of Katherine Hepburn in her famous wide leg trousers. She certainly seems very confident and comfortable in her skin. I wonder if she knew she was a trend setter wearing pants in the 1940’s? A true style icon in her own right. I thank you once again for taking time to read my blog posts. I am heading to Memphis tomorrow for a shower for Tara, my daughter in law. She and Tim are expecting Hunter Wever Jett in July. Very exciting news for our family. A first!!!! Have a wonderful weekend and wishing all you Moms a Happy Mother’s Day in advance!!!  XO Debby
