The Little Black Dress – Splurge vs Steal

The Little Black Dress - Splurge vs Steal from Fashionomics

Happy Wednesday and hope you have had a great February!! We had a wonderful surprise last week. Our grandson Creighton Lyles Sheehan arrived 2-20-2020 two weeks early. He is adorable, very handsome and Roxanne is doing great. I can’t believe how fast these girls bounce back these days. I tried to stay in the hospital as long as possible and sent my babies to the nursery. Just trying to take advantage of the expert help before I had to go home and do it myself. Anyone else remember those days?? I think I told you that I took a bit of a fall/winter break recently but am trying to get back on a schedule. What better topic to start with than The Little Black Dress – Splurge vs Steal. I read this week that Coco Chanel created the Little Black Dress (LBD) in 1926. Her goal was to make it available to the widest possible market. (not that many of us can afford Chanel). I am such a fan of black that it is hard to imagine a time when that color was reserved for mourning or servants. The dresses of the 1920’s were fanciful and colorful. Coco Chanel was going for simple and classic and the LBD has become a fashion staple.

CASHMERE GWENETH DRESS – J.McLAUGHLIN

I am a huge fan of J.Mclaughlin and love this black Gweneth cashmere dress from their Luxe Collection. It is so timeless and elegant and easy to wear. I chose a suede knee high boot (which I have loved wearing) but you could wear a pump or bootie. In my opinion keeping it simple is always a great choice. Cashmere is always a good investment and this could stay in your closet for many years. I think the mock turtleneck is very flattering since some of my clients steer away from higher turtlenecks. The ribbing detail makes for a very flattering A line fit and it just kind of skims your body but is not tight. It would look great with a leather jacket. I obviously wear these Claudia Lobao brushed gold hoops almost every day. They are so flattering against your face. Tootsies has a good selection in the Dallas store and you can also visit her website.

I thought it might be fun to write a blog on The Little Black Dress – Splurge vs Steal perspective. Actually there are quite a few versions of the LBD these days and you can choose your price point and style. I found a great LBD at the Nordstrom Half Yearly sale last summer. I now regret that I didn’t keep it. Just FYI if you find something at that sale buy it fast or it will be gone. I showed this LBD with a plaid jacket for a great seasonal office look. Great for transitioning between seasons. I also tried to showcase LBD’s with sleeves. I’m listening ladies.

As always I so appreciate your reading my ramblings on fashion. I am trying not to feel so pressured and overwhelmed!! After all Fashion is Meant to be Fun (a Fashionomics mantra) and I want to have a good time writing this blog and sharing on social media when I feel called to do so. You know I must have been burned out because I stopped sharing my grandkids on my personal instagram page. I can’t believe it’s almost March and the most lovely time of year when the flowers bloom and I get to plant my garden ( with a lot of help). Let me know if you have any topics you have questions about or would like to see me cover. I am off to early vote and then hopefully take a nap.  XO Debby
