I hope you all had a wonderful July 4th holiday. It is one of my favorite holidays and in my little town we have a very old fashioned parade with floats and the high school band!! Then there are a lot of fun activities in the park across from my house. I remember taking my children to the parade if we were not in our favorite spots; Westport, CT or NYC. I love our 4th of July celebration but there is nothing like celebrating on the East Coast where it all began. I always feel like this holiday marks the coming end of summer even though we are only half way. For my second “come back” blog I thought I would share Some Home Decor Updates I have tackled in the past few years. We have been in our home 15 years now and there always seems to be a room that needs a facelift.
One of my dearest friends is very generous to help me with decorating my house. I love fashion and helping clients with their wardrobes but decorating is not my gift. I just don’t feel very confident when tackling Some Home Decor Updates. The most recent updates started with one of the bedrooms upstairs when my daughter moved out. I really had fun choosing the colors and love the cornflower blue that we chose for the walls. We even painted the bathroom (after removing the wallpaper) and also painted the ceiling a very light blue. We used various shades of Benjamin Moore Summer Blue. We chose Matouk bedding which is so beautiful!! I felt like I was splurging and have had to remind myself that Erma Bombeck said she wished she had enjoyed her house and time with friends and family more without worrying about the mess!! My friend suggested I order a fitted sheet from Bed Bath & Beyond to save a little $$. I ordered a white garden stool from Wayfair which is a great resource for so many items at good prices. Now I’m ready to update the garden stool with one from Mintwood Home.
SOME HOME DECOR UPDATES
As I mentioned last week I had to write a blog because I wanted to participate in this Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Rafflecopter. You will see the details below to enter! I got the idea to write about some home decor updates when my daughter told me about these great looking shelves she found at Anthropologie. I am actually redoing another guest room upstairs and I started thinking about looking for some more modern bedside tables. I have used old things for so long that I kind of have sticker shock when I see the prices these days! I am using Matouk bedding again because it is so pretty. This room will be pink to coordinate with the pink toile wallpaper one of my daughters chose for the shared bedroom when we got married and blended our families. And pink is some fun news coming soon!!!
ACCESSORIES MAKE A DIFFERENCE
As you can tell from the photos above pillows can add a lot of color and pizazz. This doesn’t have to be an expensive accessory. The pillows in the blue room are my favorite fabric and custom made. The other pillow above are all from Honey and Hank. They have such a great selection and it’s a fun way to decorate giving a shout out to your state or these pillows make great gifts. Check out Honey and Hank for pillows, napkins, tea towels and plates for entertaining. I like to buy a mix of expensive and reasonable items when decorating. My friend Roxie gives me such great ideas. I have found some bedside tables at Home Goods for two guest rooms. One pair I painted white with Farrow & Ball fabulous paint. I also found the bench at the foot of the bed in the blue room at Wayfair and had it recovered to match the room.
NEW TOWELS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
My house always seems to be in need of an update. Does anyone else feel that way?? My husband is not always on board with how expensive everything is!! But he eventually comes around. We finally redid our living room about 2 years ago and now he loves it and calls it our “adult” room. Another way to update is buying new towels. I have slowly replaced the towels in every bathroom. I even got them monogrammed with feels like such a splurge to me. I have found great towels from Matouk, Pottery Barn, Frontgate, and just ordered from Ballard Designs. I hope my guests will feel special. With all of these precious grand babies (now 5, maybe more?) I bought a portable folding crib . It has been perfect. That is just one of my many “Dee Dee” purchases from Buy, Buy Baby!!! Thank you so much for reading!! Hope you win the raffle!! Enjoy your summer!!! XO Debby
