Break Up Your Basics With Prints

patterns and prints from Alice and Olivia and a bow blouse

This has been a long week because the rain has just about exhausted everyone. Fall has come on pretty suddenly here in Texas and I’m not sure anyone was really ready. While trying to find something to wear I realized that I have a lot of solids. I decided that I needed to go shopping for some prints to tie all of my basics together. I was working with a client last week and realized that she has the same issue – great basics in need of some patterns and prints.

Patterns and Prints Fall 2018

Dark floral pattern and prints on Fashionomics over 50 blogger

1.  FLORALFall florals have continued to be a popular trend and when I went shopping for some patterns and prints I found that the prettiest prints were usually designer like this  bow blouse from Tory Burch. The pattern is what is called a satin burn out so there is texture and sheerness, really unique. Sometimes you truly “get what you pay for”.mixing plaid pant and double breasted blazer with floral blouse from H&M

2. PLAID – I am obviously a huge fan of plaid as you can see from this post and it’s one of my favorite examples of mixing prints. This outfit is from H&M and I have worn it with denim as well as black and other solids. Wardrobing at its best!! Plaid is great as a suit or just wearing the blazer with jeans is fab!!

camo jacket from Banana Republic is great for fall over 50 blogger

3. CAMO – Camo and army (or olive) green have been trends for a while. That seems to be the way fashion rolls these day, trends stick around. I had a hard time finding camo at the beginning of the season but now it’s everywhere. I love this camo jacket from Banana Republic and think it could be a good substitute for a jean jacket. I even found a camo bootie.

4. ANIMAL PRINT – One of my fave prints is leopard and actually all animal prints. They are easy to mix with your patterns and solids and never seem to go out of style. This leopard dress is a great example as well as my recent post on this Frame leopard blazer

I am always trying to keep you up to date on the latest trends. I love working with my clients and helping them add a few key pieces to their current wardrobe to get the most “bang for their buck”. It’s fun mixing designer with gap jeans and pulling outfits together in a way they haven’t thought of before. I hope you are enjoying the fall weather and if you are behind like me, you may be transferring your closet this weekend. XO Debby
