My Favorite Bloggers – International Women’s Day

International women's day My-favorite-bloggers

Happy Friday!! Today is Bill’s Birthday so we are celebrating tonight at Javier’s, just the two of us. He hates parties, so he says… On the other and he does like feeling special (you can never tell him I said this!) They say opposites attract and that must be true because I love parties and getting a group together. I did have a really fun party for his big birthday at Alamo Draft House downtown. ALSO Happy International Women’s Day!! So today I want to tell you about my favorite bloggers. This writing a blog has been an interesting journey for me and I probably might not stick with it if I didn’t have this great community and new group of friends to inspire and encourage me. Taking a trip to New York Fashion Week 2017 was quite the initiation with this crew!

CATHY WILLIAMSON – THE MIDDLE PAGE

Shooting with one of my-favorite-bloggers Cathy Williamson of The Middle Page

Cathy Williamson is the reason I started writing a blog. I met her at a luncheon and we have been friends ever since. I lost touch with her for a bit and then just contacted her out of the blue and discovered that in a year’s time she had built a house and then been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. She asked me if I had a prayer group and that was the real beginning of a deep and loyal friendship. When you start with a crisis and prayer, that  will bind you together. Cathy was already writing her blog The Middle Page and on her way to success! Cathy has a great sense of style, sense of humor and compassionate heart. She uses her blog as a platform for those women battling breast cancer with some very savvy fashion tips along the way. Cathy’s first priority is her family and she loves saying she is a grandma!! You will love the variety of topics Cathy covers in her blog and her very genuine and honest style. Every time I think about giving up on this blogging thing she is there to encourage me (like shooting a blog post with me!!) I can never thank her enough for getting me into this mess! Haha!!

MARY SUMMERS HAFNER – SO THEN THEY SAY

Mary Summers Hafner So Then They Say blog

Mary started out as my consultant/teacher on July 21, 2014. She taught me everything I needed to know about starting a blog. We met so many times and I was a slow study. The hardest thing for me was consistency; besides learning the ins and outs of the blogging world. After a couple of years or so Mary “fired” me because she said I just had to “do it”!  I was so sad because I think my favorite part was just talking to her. She is just the coolest and I learn so much about life from young people. Of course I met Mary through Cathy. Mary was a Kappa at SMU with Cathy’s daughter Alex (who now works for Bumble). Almost all of the photos I post are shot by the very talented Mary Hafner who also has a very successful blog of her own. She is married to the very handsome Brice Hafner (from Geneva) and now they have a precious baby Eleanor!! If you want to see some great fashion (for women and babies) and the most beautiful travel photos ever, check out her blog So Then They Say!! Mary and I share the same birthday month!!

HEATHER ANDERSON – SO HEATHER

Heather Anderson So Heather Blog

I met Heather through Cathy, of course, and they have a group of bloggers called Chic At Every Age that posts fashion from the styling viewpoint of the 20, 30, 40, and 50 something woman. Heather is an amazing business woman and runs her blog with a passion and efficiency that I really admire. I am still trying to learn how to take a great selfie like she does. Heather has a blended family of 5 like I do and loves wine and chocolate like I do.  I really got to know Heather on our trip to New York for Fashion Week Fall of 2017. These girls really know how to take NYC by storm and I was just along for the ride and shopping and eating!! Heather and I work out together at the Y on occasion when she is not in LA or NY on blogger trips. You will love her stylish updates on fashion, beauty and the latest sales. Check out her blog So Heather. Don’t be jealous of her body, she is really sweet!!

TIFFANY DAVROS – STREET STYLE SQUAD

TiffNY DAVROS STREET STLE SQUAD BLOG

I met Tiffany through Cathy and Heather and she was on our NYFW trip and I really got to know her better then. Staying in a hotel with 4 girls (2 per room) and spending every waking minute with them is a great bonding experience. Tiffany had 3 gorgeous daughters who all look like her. The oldest just went to UT in the fall and I know that has been a hard but fun transition for her. Tiffany’s mom is such an elegant and beautiful woman. The first time I met her I was reminded of the regal stature of my beloved Kim Dawson. Small world – Tiffany’s parents owned Miss Wades Fashion College (now Wade College)which was located in the old Apparel Mart where Kim Dawson agency was also located. Heather and Tiffany do a lot of shoots together and both work really hard at marketing their brands. I admire their consistency. Check out Tiffany’s blog Street Style Squad for updates.

SAM STEWART – STYLE OF SAM

SAM STEWART STYLE OF SAM BLOG

Well now you may have guessed that I have met all of my blogger buddies through Cathy. Sam is also a part of the Chic at Every Age group. She is a pharmacist, has 2 adorable young children and lives in Fort Worth so she is driving to Dallas a lot. I love Sam’s happy positive outlook and she only has good things to say about everyone and everything. She has a love for vintage and incorporates it into her always pink, if possible,  and glamorous  style. Sam has the best Instagram Stories and funny elegant fashionable selfies with mayhem in the background (kids and dog etc.) Part of the fun of being in this group of blogger buddies is that we have many birthday and holiday celebrations. These usually occur at Bistro 31, Honor Bar or Shinsei if Tiffany picks. Check out Style of Sam for some fun and creative fashion tips!

CASEY WALKER – STREETS BEATS EATS

My-favorite-bloggers

Casey is the youngest and newest of this group of friends. She came on the scene to rescue several of us and help with technical issues with this blogging stuff. Casey if from Kansas and came to Dallas via LA. She has been writing a lifestyle blog for quite some time and is and expert on anything you want to know that is going on in Dallas. Music, food, fun, activities, hidden gems and sports and travel are her specialty. She is also a fabulous advocate and spokesperson for positive body image awareness. I cannot believe everything she does in a day including helping me with my blog. Of course I cannot do this without a young person holding my hand and Casey is quite a genius at helping me schedule my blog and instagram posts as well as trouble shooting all the things I just don’t understand. I think there is seriously something wrong with my brain – I can learn a new task but can’t absorb and remember it, much to her dismay. Casey and her now fiancée bought a house in Richardson and have tackled home ownership with a great attitude despite the hurdles. Check out her blog Street Beats Eats for some great ideas of what to do in Dallas and elsewhere! Also what not to do when you buy a house.

This is my very favorite aspirational blogger and one of the first bloggers I ever followed. She lives in Brooklyn and like most fashion bloggers her husband is her photographer. (or at least he was in the beginning) From a comment I read by her mom recently I think he is also her editor (or human spell check). My motto is that Fashion is meant to be FUN and Blair is the epitome of this idea. I cannot explain her style but it is so recognizable and interesting that I am always inspired by her creativity. Check out Atlantic Pacific for some inspiration and keep an open mind!! Maybe I’m not very successful because Bill would never take my blog photos. He hates it when I try to shoot on vacations and would never be in a selfie or allow his photo to be posted on social media. See – opposites attract.

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK 2017

Fashion Week NYFW 2017 fall

Well I am posting this on Saturday, a day late for International Women’s Day. But I feel like every day is a great day to celebrate women. I loved the segment on the news last night that spotlighted older women in the fashion spotlight!! Yay. We’re not finished making a statement yet. Age is just a number and it’s more about your attitude and outlook. My mom is 91 and going strong. She still cares about makeup and skin care and getting her hair done every week!! I hope you enjoy getting to know my favorite bloggers and hope you get some fun ideas for your style. Love you all for and you are an inspiration to me. Have a great weekend. XO Debby
