Let’s Talk Paprika for Spring

I’m finally back after a little diversion. It was a really fun long weekend with most of our kids in town to celebrate Bill’s birthday. We had a blast, as always when our family gets together. This was especially fun because Bill had a brilliant idea of celebrating his BD at the Alamo Draft House Cedars downtown in one of the Karaoke Rooms!!! ( this is rare because he usually does not want to have a party or any recognition of anything that would draw attention to him) I shopped for accessories and decorations with the girls and we were ready for the big event! I enjoy our kids more and more and we never seem to have enough time together. Does anyone else feel that way? Life is just too hectic and our family is spread across the country. However we are so proud of their independence and success. We love their spouses too!! By the way, I cannot sing but it was fun to try!!!

These photos are from the shoot I told you about in the last blog with Mary Summers Hafner at Tootsie’s. My friend and salesperson, Betsy Gallagher, pulled some really fun looks for me. I love this red sweater and I like to see what names the designers use for colors. It is hard to keep up with all of the possibilities and they are always creative. No normal boring colors like red or orange. Well this Theory sweater is paprika, therefore you can see where I got my blog title. The V neck is very flattering and this is such a great weight for spring. This weather is so crazy, you never know if it will be hot or cold. I think a light weight sweater is such a classic piece that can transcend all seasons. This sweater is merino wool but it would be perfect for cool nights at the beach or could take you to the movie in the summer. Air conditioning in Texas is alway full blast so I like to have options when going out in the evening. I am old fashioned and still love to tie a sweater around my shoulders for a pop of color near my face and a quick fix if I get chilly.

I have to say that anything in fashion is a really hard job if you are trying to budget. When I got out of college I was a school teacher. It was pretty much the least amount of money I ever made and yet I always had savings, no debt and managed to travel quite a bit. My next career was modeling and there went the budget. Here came the NM credit card and a great wardrobe with the addition of credit card debt!!! I hate to admit that part. I have always loved clothes and that obsession was encouraged by mother and her mother before her. They both loved pretty clothes and jewelry, so I guess I came by this flaw honestly. I have walked the aisles of every department store in Dallas and New York and it is seriously hard to resist buying something when you are exposed to the latest fashions on a daily basis and need to look the part when you show up for a booking. I am terrible and my poor husband just shakes his head. He is a financial advisor and it must be God’s joke on him that he chose to marry me; a shallow fashionista!!!! So….. let me tell you about this very cool red fold over clutch. This Camille Saddle Bag in Tea Rose (another fancy fashion color) is by Annabel Ingall. It has a shoulder strap but I carried it as a clutch. Love the color and tea rose must be close to paprika on the color wheel because my sweater coordinates pretty well, I must say. Not that things need to match but tones of red are everywhere this spring and summer. Don’t be shy when it comes to adding color to your wardrobe. It really brightens up your face to have color enhancing your beautiful smile.

As most of you know if you have read a few of my blogs, I love a great skinny jean. I wear a lot of Gap and am also partial to the fit of Citizens of Humanity and 7 For All Mankind. This is my first time to wear a jean from the very popular brand, Mother!! (which has a really funny story behind the name if you care to google it or ask Betsy at Tootsie’s!!) In my opinion you can never have too many white jeans. Now you can wear them all year long but I especially love to wear them in spring and summer. I could literally wear them every day and have several pairs from skinny to crop to flare. I have to say I love the fit of this Mother skinny white denim and would not mind owning a pair for my collection!!

As always, thanks so much for reading. I know you might be a little curious about my fabulous scarf and the lingerie detail under my sweater. Stay tuned for a future blog post expanding on these fabulous accessories and trendy fashion pieces. I hope you are having a great week and I look forward to hearing from you. I love your comments and welcome your suggestions. Please let me know if there are any topics you want me to cover in future posts. I love my readers!!!!!
