Where Did You Grow Up:
I was born in Charleston, SC, my father was in the Navy, which keeps me from being a native Texan. My father was a civil engineer and he worked in Houston, TX, Shreveport, LA, Baton Rouge, LA and then moved our family to Irving, Texas after he was diagnosed with lung cancer. I was probably 5 years old when we moved to Irving and I lived there through high school.
Favorite Place You’ve Ever Visited:
I love to travel so this is a very difficult question. I would have to say the place I love the most is Westport, CT where one of my closest friends lives. It is full of memories from spending July 4 there almost every summer with my children. It is also very near New York City where I lived when I was modeling. I love the East Coast which is rich with history and beauty and sophistication.
Favorite Restaurant in Dallas:
Nova on West Davis in Oak Cliff is at the top of our list. We discovered this restaurant with friends several years ago and have been taking our favorite people there ever since. I am not sure if we go more for the great food, awesome service from our friend John David, the drinks or the fun of going to The Bishop Arts area. I always start with a Rosemary Crush (love a good mixologist), smoked salmon potato skins, grilled beet salad (the very best ever!!!) and scallops if they are on the menu. You may want to try the gourmet pizza. Everything is delicious!
I have had to think about this question quite a bit. I have now gone beyond my comfy robe and house slippers to what really warms my heart. It is definitely having my whole family home for Christmas and knowing that they are healthy, happy and safe. Actually I can’t wait until we all meet in Seaside this August for a family vacation. Our kids live in five different states so it is a rare and treasured occasion when we can all be together so of course for me this is as good as togets this side of heaven!!
One thing you never leave home without:
I hate to admit that I am attached to my cell phone for many reasons personal and professional. I know at one point in my life I lived without it but I am really glad that technology has progressed and I can call or email or text or keep from getting lost almost anywhere I might go.
Must have beauty item:
Shu Uemura Eye Lash Curler!!! Ask any make up artist and he or she will agree, it’s the best!!! I am not sure why the design of this curler is so extraordinary but I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed. In fact they are so hard to find these days that I just ordered 5 online from Net-A- Porter!! A bargain at $20 each and no tax or shipping. I think curling your eyelashes is a must!!!!!
One make-up item for the rest of your life – what would it be:
Lip Gloss, preferably Hempz Lips (herbal lip balm). I think I am addicted to lip gloss. I cannot stand for my lips to be dry. So I have Hempz in my bathroom, my car, my purse, and my office. A couple of other favorites that I always have on hand are Mac Prrr Lip Gloss and Bobbi Brown Petal 3 Lip Gloss. These have a bit of color.
What’s in your handbag:
I carry way too much stuff in my handbag that I use for every day. My neck and shoulders have definitely paid the price for wagging these bags around for years. Here goes with the long list:
cell phone; sunglasses; keys; valet set of keys; cosmetic bag with lipsticks, Hempz lip balm, eye drops, contact solution, contact case; check books; wallet; appointment book; pens; business cards in holder; hand sanitizer; kleenex; sunscreen; tape measure.
Favorite Item In Your Closet:
My robe and house shoes. I have several robes that I like to put on after a long day and watch TV with Bill. I have 2 white terry cloth robes from a Valentine’s stay at The Adolphus Hotel (I got 2 because Bill didn’t want his) ; a white, cotton, monogramed waffle weave robe that Victoria bought for me when she was working at Swoozie’s; and a short turquoise, cotton, monogramed waffle weave robe from Roxanne’s wedding weekend. My house slippers are all from stays at nice hotels. They are think and white and I just shuffle around in them at home because my feet usually hurt from modeling jobs or standing for hours in a closet or shopping with clients.
If You were stranded on an Island what are three things you would bring:
Bible, Bill, eye glasses.
One item you would never be without:
Contact lenses (I figure that I could not take these if I was stranded on an island so I picked glasses instead. Otherwise I would have said contacts for the question above)
If you could live in one designer, who would it be?
Victoria Beckham, my new favorite. I love a styles with classic elegance. I think she has beautiful designs that are flattering, on trend and timeless. Who would think this could come from a former Spice Girl?
One dream you still wish to accomplish:
I would love to speak fluent French and Spanish. I almost have a minor in French and have lived in Texas most of my like and speak broken Spanish. I love to travel and it is so much more fun and enriching if you can actually speak and understand the language. I was an English major and I appreciate languages. I am reminded to put this on my list of things to do, sooner than later!!!
One quote or motto you try and live by:
“Trust in The Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5&6
Favorite personal inspirations/style icons in your eyes:
I have always loved and admired classic style worn with elegance. My style icons would be Audrey Hepburn, Jacqueline Kennedy, Kate Middleton, and more recently Victoria Beckham. These women exemplify for me the ultimate in timeless fashion. The styles of Jackie Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn are still being worn today. Their look and unique flair for fashion never goes out of style. Kate Middleton has the same ability to look beautiful, stylish and it all seems so natural and effortless for her. I am feeling the same way about Victoria Beckham when seeing the clothes she is creating for her line.
Favorite thing about Dallas/Texas:
The people. I have the most amazing friends. Dallas is full of fun and interesting and intelligent people of all ages and walks of life. Dallasites are friendly, hard working, kind and generous. The Southern charm and manners are alive and well here. I find the people here to be a combination of sophistication and down to earth at the same time. This is a very fashionable city with many fabulous places to shop. Of course, I love fashion and seeing women and men who are well dressed. I love my clients and the amazing women I have met since I established my business, Fashionomics. But I always remember what my mother said, “Beauty is only skin deep.” and another saying “Clothes don’t make the man.” I know that it is the heart that matters and I love the hearts of the people in Dallas.
One item you will wear this summer:
My new white Michael Kors watch. Bill gave it to me for Mother’s Day. I love white in the summer. It is white and gold and goes with almost everything!! I love to stack up a few bracelets with it for the “Arm Party” look that Michael Kors shows.
Your summer beauty routine:
I always think taking care of my skin is the most important part of the beauty routine. I use Mary Kay Time Wise Cleanser, Almay eye make up remover pads for cleansing. I always use lots of moisturizer. My stand by is Clinique yellow moisturizer. I have recently added some products from Kate Somerville like DermalQuench Liquid Lift and Restore 8 Refinishing Serum. I have also just discovered Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream. My favorite eye cream is Caudalie.
Words of advice to 15 year old Debby:
Wear sunscreen to protect your skin!!!!! Wear a hat to protect your face. You will regret baking in the sun with baby oil and iodine even though you have olive skin that tans easily. The damage shows up later and it is not pretty.
