I actually started writing this blog in Memphis while I was babysitting for a week. Well I never finished it there, Thanksgiving has come and gone, another set of kids has come to visit with their new baby, then Christmas and New Years!!! Is this normal?? Am I just inept at ever getting anything done?? I am embarrassed to admit how long this blog post has been in the works. I will try to be brief and share some ideas because Dressing Up is Always In Style, not just for the holidays. It’s always that time of year it seems with weddings and galas and gatherings that require you to think outside of the box. I found some great examples for you for black tie events that require a long dress. I love having a few great dresses in my closet so I am ready for any dressy occasion without having to scramble for something at the last minute. Some very special parties or weddings do require a shopping trip so let me know what you think. I tried to give you a variety of styles and colors. Love this deep emerald for a neutral besides black or navy.
DRESSING UP IS ALWAYS IN STYLE
ACCESSORIES CAN MAKE THE OUTFIT
You know I love shopping at Tootsies Dallas with my favorite stylist Betsy Gallagher. They have the best curated buy with some very unique items that I cannot find elsewhere. This particular Badgley Mischka dress (in red here)(navy here) in this style was only in one other store. I could find similar versions but not this one. I was drawn to the subtle ruffle detail and flattering style. The statement necklace by Bounkit must be one of a kind because I could not find it anywhere. If you find a great specialty store with excellent service like Tootsies you will be able to score some unique looks that you won’t see just everywhere. Their buyers have fabulous taste and must have some influence in the fashion industry because I am experienced at spotting interesting fashion pieces and they have them (like this bee clutch from Moyna). Evening wraps are always hard to find and Tootsies always has a beautiful selection. (similar here) You may just have to go into the store. (details below)
HOT PINK CAN STEAL THE SHOW
This Marchesa gown is really unusual and I might not have chosen it if Nerissa, the store director, hadn’t encouraged me to try it. We are talking drama and what could be better than a built in cape!! You really don’t need much in the way of accessories because the dress is already adorned and beautiful on its own. I just added a simple Jennifer Behr earring (similar here). I did make an attempt to wear my hair up for a dressier look. I needed my friend and hair and make up expert LB Rosser to style me!! I think it makes all the difference if you get your hair and make up done before a big event. You will feel gorgeous!! False eyelashes are a must and a pop of color on your lips will brighten your face.
ADD A TOUCH OF GOLD
Most of my wardrobe is black. I guess I am pretty basic and boring especially for evening. I do also have some navy long dresses that I love. The color in the dresses I have shown in this blog is pretty daring for me!! haha So of course, I have to show something black, but this dress from Basix Black Label is pretty fun and a little flashy with the gold sequin detail. I actually love this dress and it is super comfortable. I never wear my hair curly but it was 30 degrees the day we were shooting and I wanted to try to put it up later so here is the result. I also never wear headbands but this one from Oscar de la Renta is really pretty and festive and tamed my hair in the wind!! Serpui has the best evening bags like this bronze sparkle with a tassel. I have mentioned my friend Claudia Lobao many times because I love her earrings and own several pair. (similar here) She sells in boutiques like Tootsies.
Well this is probably actually three blog posts crammed into one but I was determined to get this written! I have a wedding this weekend and its outside so I may wear a long dress and I will for sure need a wrap. I hope you are having a great start to 2020 and you and your family had a wonderful holiday season. I guess I have essentially taken a little break from social media. I honestly got kind of burned out and did not have the desire to post my life or anything on Instagram. I didn’t even post my grand kids over the holidays and that is unusual for me. I think that everyone has been under the weather with some cold or sinus or something including me. But I am feeling much better and looking forward to getting back to work. Thank you for hanging in there with me and I hope you know how much I appreciate you for reading my ramblings on fashion etc. Happy New Year XO Debby
