Happy Tuesday and I hope your September is going well. I can’t believe it has flown by. Bill had major foot surgery September 5 right after I returned from my very fun trip to New York City and Westport,CT. I usually go for Labor Day because Bill is hunting but this year I wanted a vacay before my nursing job started. Bill has been a trooper but it’s not easy having to use a scooter and not being able to bear any weight on his right foot. It has been kind of fun having him home but I’m not used to considering anyone else when planning my day. I don’t think I ever really stopped to think about how much energy healing requires. Then last week my daughter-in-law and her mom brought the boys – Hunter (2) and Jennings (9 months) to Dallas for a fun visit. Also Bill’s former mother-in-law passed away so Liz came in for the funeral. Victoria was sweet to come in to support her and we all went to the funeral on Friday (Liz, Tara, Victoria, Roxanne, and me). Quite the delegation of sisterly support. We had a wild and really fun filled weekend of course adding Sloan (16 months) to the cousin playgroup!! So I am subtly giving you my most recent excuse for being behind on writing my new series Dresses For Fall – Animal Prints . At this point in the season the only thing I think you can wear to look like fall is a dress!! It’s still hot in Texas and I am kind of bummed because this year I have bought a lot of new clothes.
DRESSES FOR FALL – ANIMAL PRINTS
You know that I love to shop at Tootsies Dallas for my clients and myself. All of the stylists are great and I have worked with many of them but my main go to girl is Betsy Gallagher. We make a great team and I want to give her a shout out for helping me pull some fabulous ensembles together for my Dresses For Fall – Animal Prints posts. I think my very favorite dress is this one by L’Egence because I love the camel and black combo and the “I’m not quite sure what this animal is” print. It is such a cool maxi dress with the slits up the sides and shirt waist style. It does have a lovely generous self belt but I chose to add a wide black leather belt (snakeskin). (FYI I linked the dress at Bergdorf (XS-M) (but there are more sizes (S-XL)on the L’Egence website if you want to shop there.) I do think it is easier to shop with a major retailer but if you shop a brand website just check the return policy.
One really fun thing about shopping Tootsies Dallas is that they have the most amazing selection of accessories that you just don’t see everywhere. Accessories are a very important part of your wardrobe and can really add an extra oomph to some really simple pieces. I am seeing a lot of larger frames in sunglasses and it reminds me of Jacki O or Audrey Hepburn. They are very glamorous and really fun to hide behind. Love these large black Gucci frames ($350). I have also linked some similar styles at various price points ($55). I always like to help you get the look for less.
ACCESSORIES MAKE THE OUTFIT
Mules and slides have been a very neutral shoe choice for a few seasons. This black slide from Lodffler Randall is so versatile. I already mentioned this great wide black snakeskin belt. I actually have to admit that I hang on to good looking belts forever. I have had a very similar belt in my closet for years and I wear it often. I have a few regrets for letting go of some in the past – like a fabulous wide soft suede belt. Every time I wish I had it I cringe! But belts are tricky because with jeans going from low to high waisted you need several sizes and the waist expands as we age – well don’t hang on to any belts that just don’t fit anymore. I guess I kind of collect belts and when I see a fabulous one I buy it. You know I am a hoop girl and these black with gold detail from Gas Bijoux are just the bomb. I wear so much black but black earrings usually don’t show up in my hair. These are really cool. I’ll warn you that mixing prints is a tricky business so proceed with caution. You have to stick with a similar color scheme. That’s why I think this animal print dress mixes well with this DeMellier snakeskin bag because they both have the same warm tones of brown.
I hope you have a wonderful productive week. I am so looking forward to wearing some fall fashions soon even though I have a hard time letting go of summer. We are expecting a new grand baby #4 this week (Will) so we are on pins and needles waiting to hear some news. I never ever knew how much fun it would be to have grand kids. I actually have time to play on the floor now. Or I have decided I want to honor Erma Bombeck by grabbing the joy. I am sure that no one noticed my taking some time off but I’m glad to be back and I can’t thank you enough for reading my ramblings on fashion and other things. XO Debby
