This blog was inspired by one of my clients who wrote: “I was wondering if you would share what under eye concealer you use. I’ve tried several products and none seem to work. I just need to look “fresher” under the eyes!!!” Of course I couldn’t just tell her about the concealer. Beautiful, healthy skin starts with the treatment underneath the make up.
Taking care of your skin is of the utmost importance!!! You need to use specific products designed to be used around your eye area.
Moisturizing is the key to looking younger and more rested. Taking care of the delicate skin around your eyes cannot be emphasized enough. You always want to use an eye cream in addition to your regular moisturizer for your face. I have been using Caudalie Anti Wrinkle Eye & Lip Cream. I like the consistency of the cream and the price is very reasonable, under $50. You can find it at Stanley Korshak and Sephora. I can’t live without it so I usually buy 2 tubes at a time.
The under eye concealer that I use is Laura Mercier Secret Concealer Anti-Cernes. You can choose the shade that works best for your skin tone. I like it because it is creamy and does not enhance the wrinkles under your eyes. I don’t like most of the ones on a wand sponge applicator that tend to be drying. If you keep moisture around your eye it looks fresher. If the concealer is dry after application it accentuates the fine lines and wrinkles and makes you look older and tired.
Sometimes I feel that my eyes need a little life or lightening effect. Then I add Bobbi Brown’s Tinted Eye Brightener after I apply my concealer and makeup just in the inside corners. This does have a sponge applicator but it just brings a little iridescent light to those dark areas.
To complete the process I also suggest using a gentle eye make up remover like CVS Eye Makeup Remover (oil free). You can also find eye makeup remover pads which are easy to use. Just remember that the area around your eyes needs very gentle and special treatment. Wear your sunglasses and a cap or hat when in the sun to protect this delicate area from sun damage. I love the sunshine and a trip to the beach but nothing ages you more than too much exposure to the sun without protection.
I love working with my long time friend and cosmetic specialist at Neiman Marcus NorthPark, Katie Sewell. She is at the Bobbi Brown counter but is very knowledgeable about all of the products and lines. She has given me such great advice over the years and I trust her judgement and recommendations for my skin care and make up needs.
REMEMBER TO MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE. You want your skin to glow and look fresh and young.
