Happy sunny and very cold day from Dallas. Not as cold as some of you I am sure. I was hoping for a bit of snow last night as an excuse to sit by the fire but not happening here. I have been wanting to write about Athleisure for quite some time now and am finally getting around to it. I try to work out every day and have to admit that my wardrobe is lacking in pizazz. I really need to rethink this because in my neighborhood it has become pretty acceptable to run around in your work out clothes all day. I don’t play tennis, but wish I did because I think their outfits are much cuter than mine. What is “Athleisure” anyway?? Well, according to Wikipedia the definition is:
Athleisure is a trend in fashion in which clothing designed for workouts and other athletic activities is worn in other settings, such as at the workplace, at school, or at other casual or social occasions. Athleisure outfits are yoga pants, tights and leggings that “look like athletic wear” and are characterized as “fashionable, dressed up sweats and exercise clothing”. The idea is that gym clothes are supposedly making their way out of the gym and becoming a larger part of people’s everyday wardrobes.
I have always loved working out but I do not consider myself an athlete by any stretch of the imagination. I was in the drill team in high school and my favorite sports (or the only ones I could do pretty well) were water skiing and snow skiing. I am not really a very good runner but I love to walk. I work out at the Park Cities YMCA and also take advantage of Class Pass so I can afford an occasional Pilates Barre session and work out with my girls if they invite me. I like Piloxing and think it is a great aerobic workout and fun way to exercise . It has replaced my love for Zumba. I also take Barre classes, Yoga, Body Pump and Body Works and sometimes Spin. I have gotten pretty lazy as far as working out on my own and need an instructor to tell me what to do. My newest goal is to take Pilates with my friend Kris Lezetc who is certified in Classical Pilates. It is supposed to totally change your body and really strengthen your core. #goals
Honestly working out is my sanity. It helps my mind and attitude as much as my body. I do think that stretching is underrated and I know that I never take enough time to stretch. I also try my best to eat healthy. Most recently I have been trying to follow the Whole 30 plan with my daughters because I really overdid the sweets and wine over the holiday. Last year we took the Health Lifestyle Secrets classes and it was really helpful but not easy. I love good food and I really like to cook but don’t use very complicated recipes. I have to eat pretty simply because I have some digestive issues like dairy doesn’t like me among other things. My dad really helped me understand nutrition and he always had a garden so I love fresh vegetables although no tomatoes will ever taste as good as his did. I’ll show you some easy to wear athleisure on sale from Nordstrom and Tory Burch. Love her Tory Sport. I also wear a lot of items from the Gap and Old Navy. The main shoes I wear are Asics because they come in narrow.
